Parent Commissioning

CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your new baby! In the midst of all that is changing in your home with the addition of your new baby, we invite you to take a moment to focus on what really matters most.

No one will ever have more influence on your child than YOU! We want to be your biggest fans, your strongest supporters, and your trusted guides as you raise your child to know what it means to step over the line of faith and have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

With that in mind, we believe that what happens in your home is just as important as what happens at church and it is our hope to partner with you from the very beginning.

Parent Commissioning is more than an event. It is our first opportunity to connect with you and for you to take some time at the beginning of your journey as a parent to think about what will matter the most in the life of your child; to decide what you value and what you can do today that will have the greatest impact on your child's future.

step 1 - REGISTER

Parent Commissioning happens twice a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. Be watching the Sunday Program, the Newsletter, Brazos Pointe website and app for exact dates. To register, click on the button below. Registration closes October 8, 2023.

Step 2 - Important Lessons

We have created a resource, which includes three parenting talks that we feel will help you start right now—at the beginning—to do the things that will truly matter the most to you and your child in the future. These early years are incredibly important. Listening to these talks will be an investment of time that you will never regret.

Lesson 1

You are the spiritual leader in your home and your child's greatest guide in understanding what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

HOMEWORK: Write a letter to your child. You will NOT be expected to share what you wrote, but we will be using it in our discussion. Stationery is provided in your registration packet. Please bring the completed letter with you.

Lesson 2 - For Married Couples

The most important relationships in your home that will lead to your child’s emotional health and confidence are your marriage and your relationship with Christ.

HOMEWORK: One habit to help you keep your marriage a priority. A magnet is provided in your registration packet to record your habit. Please bring the completed magnet with you.

Lesson 2 - For Single Parents

The most important relationship you can have that will lead to your child’s emotional health and confidence is the one you have with Christ.

HOMEWORK: One habit to help you grow in your relationship to Christ. A magnet is provided in your registration packet to record your habit. Please bring the completed magnet with you.

Lesson 3

When your child walks out your door to face their future as an adult, what are the values they will take with them? This talk will encourage you to really think with the end in mind.

HOMEWORK: Five values you want to pass on to your child and two habits to help develop those values. A card is provided in your registration packet to record your values and habits. Please bring the completed card with you.

Step 3 - Attend Parent commissioning class

Good job! You have registered, sent in your picture and listened to the messages and now it’s time to talk through some of the things you have learned!! As we have stated earlier, we want to do everything we can to support you on this parenting journey and this class is designed for that very purpose. First, it gives us a chance to meet you and is the first step in building a partnership with you. During the class we will walk through your homework and give you tools that can jump start you on your journey of parenting and building faith at home. Next, it provides a way for you to meet other new parents. We have seen the benefits of new parents coming together and getting connected as they experience the same joys and tackle the same challenges.

Your presence at the commissioning Class is required in order to participate in the commissioning on Sunday, so please mark your calendar today!

The class will be held on:

Sunday, November 5, 2023 - 9:00 - 10:00 AM

Brazos Pointe Fellowship @ The Church Office Conference Room

Other Information

  • Bring: Completed Homework Assignments – Letter, Magnet, Value/Habit Card. We will be using them in the class.

  • Children: Drop your children off at the building as if you were going to attend church and then come to the smaller building on the east side of the church.

  • Food: We will provide a light snack.

    Attire: Casual

Unless you are a single parent, it is important that both parents attend this class.

Step 4 - Commissioning

The GRAND FINALE! It is a time of CELEBRATION! God has created a new life in this world and that is definitely something to celebrate! The Commissioning is a time of commitment before God and our church family saying that you will put God first in your home and will trust in Him as your source of direction as you guide your family and parent your child.

The Commissioning happens Sunday afternoon at 3:00. We will provide invitations for you to invite your family and friends to join us in your registration packet.

We will have a small service 30 minutes or less where we will introduce you and your family. We will also have you share your values from your homework. Then the pastor will lead you through the commitment and have you respond by saying “We/I will”. The pastor will then close in a prayer of blessing.

TO CLARIFY: This event is NOT infant baptism. We believe that when people are old enough to understand what it means to put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, they should have the opportunity to make that choice for themselves. A preschooler is not able to understand sin, forgiveness, the sacrifice our Savior made for us, and what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This event is about your commitment as a parent to lead your child into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, so that as he gets older, you are able to guide him and to help him understand what that means.
