Sharing our Faith and Social Distancing

As we rethink how to do church in this time of social distancing we start with the basics. Our vison and mission remain unchanged. We are still a church for the unchurched guiding people to take their next step with God. We’ve figured out how to meet for Worship and Small Groups. Really impressive are the creative ways so many of you have discovered how to serve others through Volunteer Ministry. But what about evangelism? Sharing the Gospel and Social Distancing seem to be mutually exclusive activities.

Again, let’s get back to the basics, Jesus said “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (Mt. 16:18) We can be sure Covid 19 will not overcome it either. Jesus builds the church. We simply look to see where he’s working and join him. The place to begin that search is in prayer. Jesus gave us clear direction how to pray about evangelism in Luke 10:2.

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore,
to send out workers into his harvest field.
— LUKE 10:2

We begin our effort to share the Gospel by asking God to send people to those who don’t know Jesus.

Here’s an idea I got from the North American Mission Board (NAMB), our primary church planting partner. Taking the scripture reference numbers 10:2 in Luke, let’s pray every day at 10:02 am for the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field. Let this be a daily reminder to Pray for One

Here’s the plan:

  1. Set an alarm on your phone to repeat every day at 10:02 am.

  2. When it sounds, take a moment to Pray for One. Ask God to put someone on your heart and show you how to connect with them in this crisis.

It’s important to note Jesus spoke to people about praying for the harvest as he sent them out into the harvest field. So pray at 10:02 each day with confidence he will show us how to share our faith during this unusual time.

Live bold, and set your phone alarm right now,

Greg
