Should I Take the Covid-19 Vaccine?

I have been asked questions like this many times by church members.

  • How do I know this vaccine is going to be safe for me to take?

  • Will taking the vaccine compromise my pro-life convictions?

  • Can society not take the vaccine, get COVID-19 naturally, and then eventually reach herd immunity?

I hesitate to answer because, like so many other important issues, this topic has become more controversial than it should have been. With that said though, there are legitimate questions concerning the vaccines. Fortunately, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of our denomination has created a helpful explainer covering these questions. I hope you’ll click on the link and look over its thoughtful explanations and answers.

ERLC Explainer on the COVID-19 Vaccine

The “Explainer” also has a link to a conversation Russell Moore, President of the ERLC, had this past December with Dr. Francis Collins, head of the National Institutes of Health and a committed Christian. In issues of extreme importance it is vital you consider the sources of information you receive before making decisions. You will not find any better sources from a medical or Christian ethics point of view than Dr. Collins and Dr. Moore. They offer very thorough answers to your questions as they discuss the vaccine and other key issues in the video. Please read the Explainer and watch the video. Then decide what is best for you.

Live bold and seek godly wisdom,
